Italy INTENSIVE (1 Month Long, May 15 - June 14)
COST: $1,280 (price does not include airfare)
WHAT: We will be working alongside our church partners in Siena, Italy. Every week from Monday - Friday, we will help work with immigrant children alongside the church, which runs a free after school program (leading games, crafts and helping with homework). In addition, we will have a different service focus every morning depending on the given week. Week 1 - Help teach English to University students in Siena, Week 2 - Help teach English to Italian high school students, Week 3 - Help with a local service project, Week 4 - Help with a local outreach project.
REGISTER: To get signed up, simply complete the two following tasks: 1. Click the "Apply Now" tab to receive your application, submit it and then 2. Click the "Donate/Payment" tab to leave your non-refundable deposit of $640. There are only 30 spaces available for this Intensive and we operate on a first come, first serve basis, so the only way to reserve your space is with a paid deposit.
DETAILS: This trip is an entire month long and the intensive is meant to provide a deeper mission excursion, living in community with 20-30 others. Cost is kept low to make this trip affordable for those who really want to grow and experience service and community. Trip cost includes transportation to/from Florence to Siena after arrival, and before departure, a place to stay in the city of Siena, (at the church), breakfast each day, morning team devotions, planned daily service projects, evening worship and team time, as well as leadership development and trip coordination. What the trip cost does not include: Flight to/from Italy, lunch and dinner each day, and added optional weekend excursions. Weekends provide a chance for a break and time to connect with the team and people from the Church of Siena (our host church that we are partnering with).
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS: Trip participants must make flight arrangements to arrive in Florence, Italy (departing the USA on or before May 15th and arriving no later than the morning of May the 16th). Flights home should be booked for a departure date of the 14th of June. Participants are welcome to arrive early or depart on a later date, however, coordinating extra travel details and dates is up to them. If participants decide to fly into or out of another major Italian city, or to arrive on a later date, or depart on an earlier date, they will be responsible to take a train or bus direct to Siena, where we can pick them up. People coming late or departing early are still responsible for the entire cost of $1,280. Once participants have purchased tickets or have redeemed a flight award, they must email us their flight itinerary by May 1, 2018, so we can help coordinate their pick up and drop off.
WEEKENDS: Participants are welcome to coordinate day or weekend trips to Rome or other Italian cities and we can help them make travel plans. However, these costs for trains and buses, etc, are not included in the Intensive fee. In addition, participants must return to the church by Sunday evening and cannot depart until we finish work with the immigrants at 6pm on Friday evening. Travel plans can be made while you are in Italy.
WHAT TO BRING: Since we are sleeping in the church, participants will want to travel light and also bring a camping pad or light weight small air mattress and blanket or sleeping bag so they can sleep comfortably. They will need comfortable modest clothing, one work outfit that can get paint on it, a swim suit, bath towel, toiletries, and universal adapter for Europe (Italy). $600 is plenty of money to cover basic added food costs ($150 per week for lunches and dinners, although you can go cheaper by shopping at the grocery store - the church has a large kitchen). You must have an up to date passport that does not expire on our before December 2018.
EXPECTATIONS: We are there to serve and to work together in a manner that honors Christ. Endurance Leadership reserves the right to send anyone home early at the participant's expense, should they behave in a way that is harmful to the team or to the integrity of the excursion. We will provide more specific examples during the group training and orientation.
